Using TTouch to Help Shelter Animals
People often write or send emails describing their experiences with the Tellington TTouch and how it has helped them and their animal companions.
We recently received this from a woman sharing how TTouch has helped a shelter cat named Duchess.
My story involves a three year-old shelter cat named Duchess. She had been a stray and she's a real sweety but a classic scardy-cat. When anyone approached her cage she would burrow into her deep bed and hide her face. She held her rigid body in a tight little ball and when you could see her eyes they were wild with fear.
I approached her slowly and gradually with very short TTouch sessions of 5-10 minutes. Being the little lady she is she never made a sound nor tried to bite or scratch me. A real break-through came on the third visit when her eyes became soft and she began to lean her face into my touches. We dispensed with her "security blanket" - her bed - which was traumatic, I'm sure, and replaced it with flat bedding. By the fifth visit another break-through came when she went onto her side and relaxed and stretched her legs into some gentle Leopard Touches.
Duchess will now "hop" timidly around her cage. I'm looking forward to going back and introducing her to some new environments, experiences, flooring surfaces, etc. She will make someone a wonderful gentle and loving pet. It has given me immense pleasure to connect with her and to be a part of her progress.
There's nothing like a success of this kind to inspire one to keep touching, touching, touching!

Quick, Simple, Easy and Beneficial! - Ear Slides
by Stacy Lewis, TTouch Practitioner Level 2
In this article, Stacy shares the story of Digger, a pit bull/boston terrier mix who was lulled to sleep with Ear Slides at DoggiePalooza!
At a recent dog festival, a woman from Underdog Rescue rushed past me with a crate - housing a tiny puppy who was shaking from over stimulation, anxiety and being cold. I couldn't resist. "Could I hold him and help settle him down for a little bit?" I asked, as she stopped and eagerly handed me this little pup named "Digger" who was up for adoption.
As I took Digger close into my fleece jacket, I began to stroke his ears gently - from the base of the ear to the tip - making sure to eventually stroke all of the ear. As I did this, his body temperature began to rise, his shaking began to subside and he began to relax into my arms more. Within less than 5 minutes of doing a couple of very simple circular TTouches and Ear Slides, this once freezing cold, shaking pup was sound asleep inside my jacket. We were both in heaven.
Ear Slides are just one of many TTouches that we use to help relax animals so they can think and make better choices. If you're interested in learning how you can learn how to do TTouches for yourself and your pets, give me a call!
Until then, practice some gentle Ear Slides on your pets!
